Corporate Structure

On February 21, 2002, the organization previously known as the “Fire School Committee of the Fire Chief’s Association of Indiana County” incorporated as a Pennsylvania non-profit organization in order to fully explore the availability of funding sources that are not available to the Fire Chief’s Association which is incorporated as “social organization”.

The formation of this new nonprofit corporation also provided for direct control of the property and assets acquired by, or donated to, the Academy.

It is not the intent of this incorporation to separate one organization from the other, but to expand the financial ability of the academy. Facility and program operations are managed by a board of directors whose membership is comprised of emergency service personnel that are appointed by the president of the Fire Chief’s Association of Indiana County.

Thirty members comprise the board and from this group there is selected a Director and three Deputy Directors.

The Director is the presiding officer for all board meetings and coordinates the daily activities of the facility.

The three Deputy Directors assist the Director and in his absence assume his responsibilities. Each Deputy Director has assigned over site of tasks such as property maintenance, property inventory and interaction with supporting organizations.

The board meets at 7:00 p.m. on the second Wednesday of February, April, June, August, October and December.

The executive board comprised of the Director and Deputy Directors meet as needed to address daily operational issues. All land, buildings, portable equipment and apparatus at the site are the property of the Fire Chief’s Association of Indiana County.

Ultimately all materials and equipment are the property of each member agency of the Fire Chief’s Association of Indiana County. Paid-part time employees of the Academy included a Director, Maintenance personnel, Course Instructors, Test Evaluators and Course Support staff.

These employees are all contract employees and the Academy provides insurance for liability and worker’s compensation. Approximately thirty individuals are employed on a part time basis annually by the Academy.
